This autumn, step into the serene glow of the Museum of the Moon at Tewkesbury Abbey. From 16th October to 4th November 2025, this awe-inspiring artwork by Luke Jerram will transform the Abbey into a space of wonder, reflection, and imagination.

Measuring seven metres in diameter and featuring detailed NASA imagery, the internally lit Moon sculpture floats amidst the gothic arches, accompanied by a tranquil soundscape composed by Dan Jones.

To celebrate its arrival, we’ve curated a vibrant and varied programme of moon-inspired events for all ages. From atmospheric evening viewings to sunrise yoga, concerts, storytelling, and a special opening night, there is something for everyone under the Moon. Whether you're seeking stillness, creativity, or connection, this is your invitation to experience the Abbey like never before.

Stroll beneath the moon, reflect in silence, or simply take in the beauty of this unique setting. Whether you're coming for peace, photography, or inspiration, the evenings offer a quiet, reverent experience that showcases the sculpture in all its majesty.

We are pleased to offer a number of Sensory-Friendly Sessions of Museum of the Moon at Tewkesbury Abbey – a quieter, more relaxed opportunity to experience this extraordinary installation.

These one-hour sessions are designed especially for visitors who may benefit from a calmer environment, including people living with dementia, those with autism or sensory processing needs, and their families or carers.

During this time:

·       The atmospheric music usually accompanying the artwork will be switched off.

·       The scheduled times occur before sunset, allowing for more light.

·       Visitor numbers will be limited to avoid crowding.

·       Our team will be on hand to offer a warm welcome and support if needed.

We hope this dedicated session will allow more people to enjoy the awe and beauty of the Moon in a way that feels comfortable and accessible.

Step back in time—and under the Moon—for a truly unique afternoon of music, movement, and joy.

Tewkesbury Abbey invites you to an enchanting Tea Dance Under the Moon, set beneath the glowing lunar sculpture by artist Luke Jerram. This special event is open to all ages and abilities, offering a warm and inclusive space to enjoy the timeless pleasure of dancing.

Enjoy a variety of musical styles performed live, from the elegance of the waltz and foxtrot to the energy of Lindy Hop and Jive. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or simply want to sway with a cup of tea in hand, all are welcome.

High tea will be served as part of the experience. Come alone or with friends, dressed to dance or just to delight in the atmosphere—this is an afternoon like no other, where community, culture, and the cosmos come together.

During half term, families are invited to experience the wonder of the Museum of the Moon with a fun-filled programme designed especially for children. 

Get hands-on with our interactive workshops and activities, taking place under the Moon! Each session includes a children’s lunchbox and all materials.

Mon 27th, Tues 28th Wed 29th October (10-12) | Booking essential

Activities include:

Moon-themed science workshops 

Taster kids’ yoga sessions

A bouncy castle in the Abbey!

Nocturnal animals workshop - kindly delivered in partnership with The John Moore Musuem.

Spaces are limited. Children must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian.

Suitable for children 5+, accompanying adult(s) admitted at no cost. Under 5's free to attend, but are not able to participate in scheduled activities (the children's play area in the Abbey will be available)
